1957 Chevy History:The year was 1957, Paul Anka's ~Diana was tops but Buddy Holly dominated the charts with 5 hits including "Peggy Sue" and "That'll be the Day," Jailhouse Rock was number one at the box office, American Bandstand began its thirty year run, the Frisbee was born, fallout shelters became popular, and Chevrolet introduced one of the greatest American icons. the '57 Chevy. |
|
About this Car:Unlike so many '57 Chevys out there, this Chevy is one of a very proud, and rare, lot. This '57 Chevy is one of only 1500 original Rochester Ramjet fuel-injected engines produced in Chevrolet's passenger car division in 1957 (According to Documented Infonnation provided by Chevrolet tothe Corvette Restorers Society). Though, regularly used in Chevrolet's advertising campaign to tout the power and perfonnance of the new Chevy, the actual availability of the Rochester Ramjet fuel-injected engine was scarce. Most were sold exclusively to dealers or for racing purposes. The vehicle VIN number of this beautiful Chevy (VC570142875) matches, and the engine number (F1212TJ) specifies this engine as the 211th Rochester Ramjet fuel-injectedV~8produced in 1957. And boy does this baby purr. This rare engine is an extremely clean and well-taken-care-of 283ci, Rochester Ramjet fuel injected, Turbo Fire V-8, that produces over 250hp! In addition, this car has power steering and a patented 2-speed Powerglide auto transmission. And that's not all. This beautiful American classic was restored to original (frame-off) and is in very good to excellent condition as it has been affectionately cared for, covered, and stored indoors since its frame-off restoration in the 70's.Featuring original one tone Matador Red paint scheme, and gorgeous red on black two-toned interior, in excellent condition, this car upholds it's great tradition. This '57 won't disappoint, proudly showing off all the options, including an original push-button Wonder Bar radio, dual exhaust, and Firestone whitewall tires, with chrome, full wheel covers.Since it's frame-off restoration this beauty has only amassed 661 total miles! And only 60 of those have been put on since 1988 when the current owner purchased this fme automobile. In fact, since the number of actual miles is unknown, it is certainly conceivable that, due to the uniqueness of this fuel injected engine and the historical pattem of Chevy to only deliver these models to dealers, this Chevy may have been on the showroom floor all it's life.Affectionately cared for and protected with a full undercoat this '57 Chevy Bel Air Two-DoorHardtop looks, runs, and feels like it has been trapped in time.dime) in-between fin and trunk and some minor paint flaking on the engine compartment.Overall, any collector or classic car enthusiast would be ovetjoyed to show-off this car.is the incredible marriage of original American design and engineering, coupled with superb restoration and superior care and attention, that has enabled this 1957 Chevy Belto remain such a unique piece of history.
